How do sent emails from a delegate mailbox end up in the senders Sent Items.?

Consider the follow scenario:

  • A mailbox (MB1).
  • You grant the user "Send As" or "Send on behalf" permissions for another mailbox (MB2).
  • The user sends a message from MB1 on behalf of MB2.
In this scenario, the message is only copied to the Sent Items folder in MB1.

This powershell script will add DelegateSentItemsStyle to the registry for that user. Outlook will need to be restarted to take effect.

$registryPath = "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences"
$Name = "DelegateSentItemsStyle"
$value = "1"
IF(!(Test-Path $registryPath))

  {
    New-Item -Path $registryPath -Force | Out-Null
    New-ItemProperty -Path $registryPath -Name $name -Value $value -PropertyType DWORD -Force | Out-Null}

 ELSE {
    New-ItemProperty -Path $registryPath -Name $name -Value $value -PropertyType DWORD -Force | Out-Null}
